Sunlight, heat, and oxygen initiate degradation in plastic products, adversely affecting their mechanical, optical, and physical properties. This results in brittleness, chalking, discoloration, and breakage. Outdoor exposure further accelerates degradation due to UV radiation in the 300–400 nm wavelength range, along with environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, oxygen, and atmospheric pollutants.
It gradually corrodes the plastic by making it brittle, dull and faded. Lifeline has innovated UV Stabilizer Additive Masterbatches to overcome this problem and prolong the life and utility of plastic products.
Lifeline UV Stabilizer Additive Masterbatches are designed to overcome these effects and extend the service life of plastic products by protecting polymers from UV-induced degradation through the following mechanisms:
- Absorbs harmful UV radiation and dissipates it as less damaging infrared radiation and heat
- Deactivates excited chromophoric states
- Scavenges free radicals to inhibit polymer degradation
